Yonkers resident Rita Collazo, age 60, was arrested this week and charged by police after the elderly woman was found bleeding outside of the RiverVue Memory Care Unit in Tuckahoe after the two got into an argument on Sunday, Nov. 21.
The woman, who wandered out of the facility before the incident with Collazo, broke several ribs and suffered a brain bleed, according to investigators. She has since been released from the ICU at Westchester Medical Center, but remains hospitalized with her injuries.
Police said that Collazo, who was an aide at the facility at the time of the incident, was charged with endangering the welfare of a vulnerable person.
"The callousness alleged here to an elderly patient in the defendant’s care is intolerable," Westchester County District Attorney Mimi Rocah posted on social media.
Collazo - who was fired - pleaded not guilty to the charge on Tuesday, Nov. 30. She is scheduled to return to court on Tuesday, Dec. 21.
